Campus rental housing development breaks ground
Construction has commenced on Concert’s latest residential rental development, Axis, located at the University of British Columbia (UBC).
Situated near the heart of the campus, Axis is a short walk from the Student Union Building, aquatic centre and gymnasium. The 174 self-contained, purpose-built rental homes will contain a mix of studio and one bedroom suites that range from 414 to 550 square feet and cater exclusively to students, faculty, staff and other campus employees. All suites will come equipped with full kitchens and in-suite laundry, and many will showcase unobstructed views of the ocean and North Shore mountains.
As the final development within the Chancellor Place neighbourhood of UBC, Axis sits adjacent to the exiting St. Andrews residence, Stirling House condominiums and the new George R. Curtis Faculty of Law building. In conjunction with Axis, a 25,000-square-foot landscaped green space equipped with a children’s playground is being delivered by Concert as a legacy to the neighbourhood.
Much like Tapestry at Wesbrook Village UBC – a rental and condominium retirement community completed in the fall of 2010 – Axis is on track to meet the rigorous sustainability requirements of UBC’s REAP (Residential Environmental Assessment Program) Gold certification. Among other sustainability features, Axis will utilize high-efficiency boilers, occupancy and motion light sensors, energy-efficient light fixtures/equipment, water-saving fixtures and ample bicycle parking to promote sustainable and active campus living.
Completion is targeted for the summer of 2013 with move-ins available in time for the start of the 2013 school year.
