Re-marks on Source Material is part 1 of Daisy Thompson’s MFA final presentation. The starting point for this piece, looked at the simultaneous networks of power relations that one is apart of in society, and how one is both compliant and complicit, behaviourally, within these networks. During her 2 years at SFU, Daisy has been refining her interests in collaborative working methods, which reduce hierarchical structures within educational and creative processes.

Rainbow Refugee Discussion Forum – Queer Migration and Homing: A g/local world café dialogue

To broaden the impact of our commissioned opera Whenthe Sun Comes Out, QAF is partnering with Rainbow Refugee to engage in community outreach programs; giving voice to a wide range of true-life stories surrounding the issues raised by the opera: homophobic violence, migration, and the search for community and home.

This public discussion forum on queer migration is hosted by SFU's Vancity Office of Community Engagement, and facilitated by Rainbow Refugee.

Speakers: Tehseen A. (Rainbow Refugee), Chris Morrissey (Rainbow Refugee), Dai Kojima (UBC, Liu Institute), Fatima Jaffer (Trikone, UBC), cast and creators of When the Sun Comes Out - Canada's first lesbian opera premiering at the Queer Arts Festival (August 5, 7, & 9, 2013).

GreenTech Exchange Forum: The Science and Application of Environmental Toxicology and Remediation in a Green Economy

Environmental considerations are paramount in all major projects and due diligence is not only required but also vital in protecting natural settings as well as any jurisdiction’s finances. Planning for ecological risk, assessing impact, emergency preparation and environmental management assists us in making informed decisions - so what does that entail? In the July 2013 GTEx Forum, interdisciplinary environmental experts will highlight some of the issues, technology, and methods of environmental toxicology and remediation and also explain how this is all connected to the green economy.
