Job Description / Duties
Reporting to the Executive Officer, the Director of Legal & Compliance will lead the Legal Services and Compliance Department staff ensuring the oversight, planning, and implementation of legal services and regulatory compliance including those services provided to RECBC by external legal counsel.
The hallmarks of success of this role will be leadership and empowerment of a team of committed professional staff in the fair, effective, timely and efficient investigation and resolution of complaints, while ensuring transparency for the process and its outcomes. The Director also provides strategic and policy advice and general legal counsel to the Executive Officer, board (Council) members and staff.
Qualifications / Required Skills
An experienced professional with a passion for consumer protection, the Director of Legal & Compliance will be an exceptional people manager and process builder who will mentor his/her team in an atmosphere of respect, inclusion and collaboration in support of RECBC’s values and principles. Protecting the public interest, improving industry standards, supporting stakeholder and partner consultation, developing best practice policies and processes, fostering frank and open communications and seeking out cost-effective modernization of business practices will be at the forefront for this position. He/she must be a strategic thinker within an environment poised for change, possess highly developed leadership skills to effectively advance the regulatory body’s strategic direction and values, and foster an environment of public trust.
