Land Titles: An Overview

BC’s system of land registration is an essential service that underpins much of BC’s economy. But how does it work? Carlos will lay down the land title basics, then explore some of the new issues facing our system, including the push toward interoperability, and running a system created 160 years ago in a world accustomed to Google speed search results. How will Land Titles evolve?

Carlos MacDonald joined the Land Title and Survey Authority of BC (LTSA) as Registrar of Land Titles for the Victoria Land Title Office in February 2011, before being promoted to Director of Land Titles in January, 2019. Carlos also led the LTSA’s E-business team, which contributed land title knowledge in the LTSA’s development and delivery of electronic services. Called to the Bar in 1999, Carlos is a graduate of the University of Victoria. Before his appointment as Registrar, Carlos had a general solicitor’s practice in Victoria with a focus on real estate.
