Bio/Background

Sanjay Uppal is a strategic real estate professional with over 15 years experience managing complex real estate projects, leading multi-disciplinary teams, and leading community and cross-government coordination. Sanjay is a natural relationship builder and leader with experience developing and delivering real estate strategies and policy. Sanjay has significant knowledge of local, provincial, and federal real estate laws with years of senior management experience between the private and public sector in real estate and stakeholder engagement. Sanjay is the Senior Director, Account Management with Real Property Division, Ministry of Citizens Services, providing leadership in the delivery of strategic account services to Ministry partners. Sanjay was previously the Executive Director, Facilities and Planning with BC Emergency Health Services, responsible for the strategic planning and performance of a portfolio of the province’s ambulance stations, emergency health service dispatch operation centres, and administration space. Prior to this role, Sanjay was the Director of Real Estate and Stakeholder Engagement with Real Property Division where he led a team of real estate professionals and held responsibility of the province’s surplus property dispositions, acquisition processes for the Ministry, and leading acquisitions and dispositions. Also at RPD, Sanjay was a Real Estate Manager with accountability for a portfolio of approximately 150 assets with a replacement value of over $500 million.

Sanjay built a successful residential rental property management business and real estate trading business through a commitment to professionalism, subject matter expertise, and exceptional service. Sanjay holds a MBA in Executive Leadership from Royal Roads University, Rental Property Management and Real Estate Trading Licenses from UBC’s Sauder School of Business, and a Bachelor of Commerce from Ryerson University. Sanjay values community, having served on volunteer community associations, chambers of commerce, and a destination marketing organization Board of Directors. Sanjay values partnerships, having built strong relationships with Inuit, Nishnawbe Aski Nation, Federal, Provincial, and Municipal government leaders. Sanjay also highly values family; he hails from Toronto but calls Victoria home with his wife Meghan and daughters Hazel and Daphne.
