Job Description / Duties

The City of Coquitlam is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Property Valuator -Negotiator to join our team of professionals in the Strategic Initiatives Department. This is a CUPE Local 386 position.

As part of the Strategic Initiatives department reporting to the Manager Real Estate, you will handle complex real property appraisals, negotiation and advisory work in the field investigation and valuation of real property for acquisition, rental, expropriation, sale, lease, statutory right of way, exchange or other purposes. You will also inspect properties, conduct research, and review legal documents & agreements for the purpose of acquisition, land development or disposal. In addition, the incumbent will perform a variety of property management duties for City owned rental homes and land as well as negotiate with a diverse group of stakeholders and/or external customers on different issues.

Qualifications / Required Skills

You possess a degree or diploma from an accredited college or university in Urban Land Economics or related discipline combined with the completion of course work through the Appraisal Institute of Canada, International Right of Way Association, Real Estate Institute BC or other related field, a minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in a similar role, or an equivalent combination of experience and training. You also possess sound knowledge of the rules, regulations and bylaws relative to subdivision control, zoning, building and other legislation affecting real property. Along with possessing excellent oral and written communications skills, you are a team player with a collaborative approach adept at building relationships.

Additional Information

A valid BC Driver’s License and Certification with the Appraisal Institute of Canada or an equivalent organization are required.
