Job Description / Duties

Job Summary: Working in accordance with FortisBC’s strategic vision, core values and leadership competencies, this position is responsible for obtaining new land interests for Distribution and Transmission projects and to manage, maintain & acquire rights for existing facilities. This will involve dealing with outside customers, legal representatives, crown representatives, internal facility staff, lineman, etc.
Key Accountabilities:
 Develops proactive external relations strategies.
 Acts as a spokesperson on operational issues affecting third parties.
 Fosters longer term relationships with external stakeholders including reporters, media outlets
 Nurtures, maintains and optimizes longer-term relationships with key accounts in order to drive future sales and revenue streams.
 Develops and implements effective communications strategies and tactics to support the delivery of key messages to stakeholder groups.
 Facilitates public consultation regarding options before decisions are eventually made.
 Supports the regulatory process by writing pieces of regulatory submissions, in conjunction with the regulatory group.
 Informs internal decision making by communicating and representing stakeholder interests and wider corporate goals.
 Develops and implements work plans, liaising with others as necessary to meet specific objectives.
 Adapts work plan in the light of operating experience to realize agreed standards and goals.
 Identifies opportunities for improvements to procedures and ways of working in own area.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Education and Experience:
• Post secondary education in a related field.
• 4 - 7 years of experience with a variety of land issues.
• Preference will be given to candidates possessing a formal Lands education ( Land Agent license, RIBC or SR/WA designation )or equivalent combination of experience and education.
• Must have or be able to obtain a Commissioner for Taking Affidavits appointment from the Province of BC.

Functional Competencies:
Demonstrate the following functional or technical competencies:
• Knowledge and ability to apply British Columbia laws and regulations with respect to land rights
• Knowledge in appraisal and survey
• Knowledge in G.I.S (Prefer ESRI “ArcFM”) or related mapping
• Demonstrated experience in a customer-driven working environment
• Demonstrated analytical and innovative problem solving skills
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
• Negotiation Skills
• Solid computer skills with proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook) and Internet
• Must possess a valid driver’s license
