Information Session: SFU’s Certificate in Digital Communication
Time: 10-11:30am

As we go into the second decade of the 21st century, legacy industries are contracting while digital forms of communications continue to expand. There are many employment opportunities in digital media. Employers are looking for skills in social media marketing and monitoring, community engagement and management, and social media recruitment.
This info session hopes to answer the questions of potential applicants for our digital communications program.
East Van Morrison

East Van Morrison is a quartet dedicated to performing the Van Morrison songbook with an unusual approach. Vocals, reeds, piano & acoustic bass create an intimate yet spacious setting for Morrison’s timeless tunes. Old Woodstock, Tupelo Honey, Hungry for Your Love and other familiar songs from the Bard of Belfast take on new colour in the hands of this ensemble. Imagine Van Morrison through the lens of Mavis Staples, Wayne Shorter, Bill Evans and Dave Holland.

Rethinking Elder Abuse In Canada and Why It Matters

The University of Toronto’s Lynn McDonald will discuss the issue of elder abuse in Canada. McDonald is also serving as the keynote speaker at the 2013 Friesen Conference. To register, email fc2013@sfu.ca.

Festival Launch! Application Deadline

149 Arts is proud to announce the premiere of Festival Launch! a performance and mentorship event dedicated to showcasing Vancouver’s professional emerging artists and enabling them with career development skills to launch their careers.
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to showcase their work before a panel of artistic professionals and participate in career-building workshops.
The showcase and workshops will take place on June 21 and 22, 2013 at SFU’s Goldcorp Centre for the Arts, 149 W. Hastings St., Vancouver.
Festival Launch! is now accepting submissions in five disciplines:
- Music: All genres, vocal or instrumental
- Media Arts: Film, video and interactive arts
- Performance Arts: Theatre, spoken word, monologues, scene work
- Dance: Ballet, jazz, contemporary, lyrical, stage, tap, hip hop, breakdance, burlesque
- New Forms: Crossover disciplines, genres with live component.
